The versatile Zebra DS6708 Bar Code Reader from Zebra Technologies delivers the functionality of a 1D and 2D Bar Code Reader, digital camera and document scanner in a single device. Zebra DS6708-DL General Purpose Handheld Bar Code Imager Scanner. The DS6708-DL combines all the features of Zebra’s standard DS6708 imager, such as omni-directional 1D/2D bar code scanning, with embedded and server-based parsing agents that enable users to read the PDF-417 bar code on a US driver’s license and use that information for a multitude of applications. Because the parsing is done in the scanner and the output is controlled by the user, the scanner can easily be used in all environments with very little start-up effort.
The Zebra DS6708-DL digital scanner is capable of parsing out information from standard US driver's licenses and certain other American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators (AAMVA) compliant ID cards. Parsing can be achieved in one of two ways:
• Internally embedded algorithms - scanning bar codes activate algorithms internally embedded in the digital scanner to produce formatted data. Use the formatted data for age verification, credit card application information, and more.
• Server based parsing algorithms - the digital scanner recognizes the same ID cards but encrypts the content and sends this to a host side application. The host side application uses Motorola's server based parsing algorithms, provided as a .DLL, to produce formatted data.
